Only a bit more than half a year after reaching the 1-million-milestone, UPM’s groundbreaking “Sichuan Rural Poor-Household Biogas Development Programme” has now saved a total of 1.5 million tons of greenhouse gas emissions since the beginning of its reduction period on 10th of May 2012.

Beyond its outstanding climate protection impact, this Programme of Activities (PoA) substantially improves income, environmental conditions, health and quality of living of 400,000 participating low-income farmer families, i.e. nearly 1.8 million people, and thus contributes to sustainable regional development in remote mountain areas of China’s Sichuan province.

The next issuance of the PoA’s much sought after Gold Standard CERs (GS CERs) is scheduled for November 2015 with roundabout 600,000 GS CERs.
