On Monday 26th October, ClubMed Dong’ao Resort and UPM launched a new voluntary offset services for ClubMed Dong’ao resort’s guests. Under the slogan “I Travel Carbon Neutral” the service will offer to ClubMed guests the opportunity to compensate the carbon emissions generated by their air travel to and from the resort in China by supporting UPM’s award-winning emissions reduction project, the Gold Standard CDM Sichuan Household Biogas Program.
This initiative is part of a global commitment from the ClubMed and the Dong’ao resort team to support sustainable tourism, focusing on local environment protection & sustainable development.
UPM, after more than 20-years of experience in developing and managing renewable energy and emissions reduction projects, has launched a new line of services, Carbon Balance, for corporations aiming at reducing their impact on the environment and climate. Through Carbon Balance, UPM is offering a range of services from carbon footprint/carbon inventory calculation, to consulting on Carbon Management and emission reductions as well as voluntary carbon offset.
Vincent Grandsire, General Manager and Chef de Village at the ClubMed Dong’ao Resort, about the initiative: “It is very important for us to do our best to respect and improve the environment of the country and local community where our resorts are. The voluntary carbon offset program proposed by UPM is not only having a positive impact on the global climate situation but has also a lot of additional and sustainable benefits for rural communities in China. Moreover, it is a good way for us to achieve one of our objectives, raising awareness about environmental challenges and ways to make things change.”
Martin Dilger, UPM Managing Director: “We are very proud to have been selected by the ClubMed Dong’ao resort to be their partner in this voluntary carbon offset initiative, especially only few months away from the upcoming COP21 in Paris. It is an important step for our Carbon Balance offering in China and a new recognition of the value of our Sichuan Household Biogas Program in environmental protection and sustainable development and of our services to corporations in the realm of Climate Protection. ”
