UPM and sustainable are pleased to be the carbon offset sponsors of the inaugural 2015 Carbon Forum Asia (CFA) Workshop to be held on 26 and 27 of March in Macao, China. The CFA Workshop, jointly organised by the International Emissions Trading Association(IETA) and Koelnmesse, is Asia Pacific’s premier regional carbon market event on the road to the most important Paris climate summit.

The CFA Workshop in Macao will be held concurrently with the Macao International Environmental Co-operation Forum & Exhibition (MIECF) which is an established annual international environmental event with an expected number of 6,500 participants. MIECF is hosted by the Government of the Macao SAR and enjoys support of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Environment Protection of the People’s Republic of China.

We are convinced that especially the upcoming Chinese carbon market will play a decisive role for successful climate change mitigation. We are supporting this year’s Carbon Forum Asia Workshop, because it will strongly contribute to advancing carbon pricing leadership in the region and disseminating best practice knowledge among professionals interested in Asia’s carbon markets. - Martin Dilger, managing director of German CDM and Gold Standard project developer UPM GmbH and Jan-Marten Krebs, co-founder and board member of UPM’s cooperation partner sustainable AG.

The verified greenhouse gas emissions of the CFA Workshop will be compensated by cancellation of premium-quality Gold Standard Certified Emission Reductions (GS CERs) from UPM’s Sichuan Rural Poor-Household Biogas Development Programme (CDM 2898, GS 1239, http://www.household-biogas.com).

In addition to its massive climate protection impact, this Programme of Activities (PoA) significantly improves income, environmental conditions, health and quality of living of the participating poor farmer families and thus strongly contributes to sustainable regional development in remote mountain areas of Sichuan.
