New York will host this week two major events related to climate protection and carbon markets. UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has invited world leaders from government, finance, business, and civil society to the UN NYC Climate Summit 2014 on September 23rd, in order to strengthen climate action. He has asked leaders to bring strong commitments and actions to the Summit, which will be able to reduce GHG emissions, strengthen climate resilience and mobilize political will for a meaningful legal agreement to be concluded at the UN Climate Summit in Paris at the end of 2015.

Parallel to the UN NYC Climate Summit, IETA’s Carbon Forum North America 2014 (CFNA 2014) is taking place on the same day at the Morgan Stanley corporate headquarters in New York. Now in its’ 5th edition, CFNA is the region’s most professional platform for discussing climate policy and carbon markets, bringing together leading professionals from industry, finance, government and NGOs. It has a well-established history of providing the most recent and comprehensive information on market-based climate protection approaches. CFNA 2014 will focus on the current state and trends of climate regulatory developments and carbon markets in North America.

In this context, UPM and sustainable are pleased to be the carbon offset sponsors of the CFNA 2014.

We believe the forthcoming decade will be a particularly important one for the international carbon market. Therefore, we are supporting the CFNA, which will hopefully set new accents for the North American carbon market and beyond. - Martin Dilger, managing director of UPM GmbH and Jan-Marten Krebs, co-founder and board member of UPM’s cooperation partner sustainable AG.
