Today, UPM obtained CDM registration approval for its “Attock Waste Heat Recovery CDM Project” near Hub Chowki in the province of Baluchistan, Pakistan (UNFCCC Ref. 6730).

Under the project, a 12 MW Waste Heat Recovery Plant has been installed at the Attock Cement Factory near Hub Chowki, Pakistan. It will supply 58,000 MWh of electricity to the cement plant and reduce the consumption of conventional grid electricity. Thereby, annual carbon emissions of 35,000 tCO2 will be avoided. Furthermore will the project help to reduce the energy crisis in Pakistan, which led to a large number of black-outs and brown-outs frequently experienced by the Pakistani people.

The Project has been validated by Buerau Veritas Certification Holding SAS.
