UPM today announces that it has sold the first CCER certificates from its Sichuan Household Biogas Projects at the opening day of the Sichuan United Environment Exchange(SUEE), China’s latest voluntary carbon offset trading platform. The buyer of the newly issued CCERs is a local intermediary company in voluntary carbon offset trading.

UPM’s Sichuan Household Biogas Projects are now listed on the new SUEE platform but their CCER certificates remain available for offset in the other Chinese pilot ETS. The projects have been developed and are managed by UPM and its Chinese partner Chengdu Oasis in cooperation with the Sichuan Rural Energy Office and had their first CCER issuancein second half of 2016.

The Sichuan United Environment Exchange was officially launched on Friday 16 December 2016 in Chengdu, capital of the Sichuan province. The SUEE was approved by the NDRC in April this year. It is the 8thcarbon trading platform in China and the first non-pilot ETS. It will be listing CCER from projects from different Chinese provinces.
