As a Carbon Neutrality Partner, UPM compensates the CO2 emissions of the CDP DACH Climate Leadership Award Ceremony & Conference 2014, which will take place on 16. October at BMW Welt in Munich.

CDP is an international, not-for-profit organization providing the only global system for companies and cities to measure, disclose, manage and share vital environmental information, such as GHG emissions data.

This year for the first time, the CDP Climate Leadership Awards, which will be attended by more than 250 high-level representatives from companies and investors participating in the CDP programme, will be hosted for the entire DACH-Region. In addition to the announcement of the Climate Leadership winners the new CDP DACH 350 Climate Change Report will be published on the event.

We are delighted at this new climate protection cooperation with much respected CDP and are proud to be among the Carbon Neutrality Partners of such an important CDP event. For the carbon offsetting of this award we have selected first class Gold Standard CERs from UPM’s most demanding and ambitious Sichuan Household Biogas PoA because this project best meets the CDP’s high quality requirements. - Martin Dilger, Managing Director of UPM

Within the Sichuan Household Biogas PoA, more than 330 thousand peasant households in rural Sichuan have obtained modern biogas digesters so far. These will convert organic waste from pig husbandry into clean biogas that can be used for multiple household purposes. By this means, more than 900 thousand tons of GHG have already been saved. For this significant carbon reduction and the PoA’s enormous sustainability contribution, UPM has received the prestigious National Energy Globe Award in this summer for the best project in China.
