Client Hawa Energy (Private) Limited
The Hawa Energy Wind Farm Project is located in Jhimpir, near Nooriabad, District Thatta, Sindh, Pakistan. The project owner is Hawa Energy (Private) Limited. The project comprises the installation of 29 wind turbines General Electric (GE) Turbines of 1.715MW each. These provide a total installed capacity of 49.735MW (GE 1.715MW*29 WTGs) with a predicted power supply to the grid of 170.777GWh per annum.
The purpose of the Hawa Energy Wind Farm Project is to utilize wind resources for electricity generation through the construction of a wind farm with a total capacity of 49.735 MW and to deliver the electricity generated from the project to National Transmission & Dispatch Company Limited (NTDC) through its central power purchasing agency on behalf of Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) distribution companies. The project has achieved full commercial operation since 15/03/2018. It’s estimated that the project is estimated to generate 85,946tCO2e emission reductions per year and the total emission reductions 859,460tCO2e in the fixed 10-yr crediting period.
Economic development: Pakistan is passing through an acute energy crisis. The proposed project generates an estimated amount of 170.777GWh per year and therefore contributes to a reduction in the number of black-outs and brown-outs experienced by other grid users, which can help to improve the economic performance of other businesses connected to the grid.
Social development: The conducting of the proposed project offers job opportunities for local people during the construction phase and the operational period, and thus achieve economic growth in the region.
Environmental development: By resulting in a significant reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, the project contributes to a sustainable development of the local environment.
Technological development: By adopting foreign manufacturer wind turbines, the project promotes important transfer of technical know-how to Pakistan, and can act as a pioneer in promoting the spread of this technology to other wind power projects.
