Today, UPM’s cooperation partner Uniufa obtained CDM registration approval for their Methane Recovery and Utilization Project of Liaoning Mingsheng Paper Co., Ltd. in China (UNFCCC Ref. 6359).

The project will contribute to a sustainable development in China by reducing greenhouse gas CH4 through methane recovery. Electricity which would be purchased from the North China Power Grid will partially be substituted through self-generated electricty. Emissions of air pollutants such as CO2, CO, SOx and PM from fossil fuels will be avoided.

The project will introduce methane recovery facilities to the existing reactors and wastewater treatment system. The recovered methane is used to generate electricity by three sets of newly installed gas-fired generators with the total capacity of 1.5MW.

The project has been validated by RINA Services S.p.A.
