UPM has been selected as one of the consulting firms to support the inception and planning phase of the InnovativeSanitation Solutions& Reuse in Arid Region project (ISSRAR). The project initiated by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), and managed by the BORDA – Seecon Consortium and under the supervision of a Steering Committee led by the Water Authority of Jordan, was launched on the 6thof December 2017.

The project aims to increase Wastewater Treatment efficiency, improve Fecal Sludge Management (FSM), and turn waste streams into physical and financial resource streams by ensuring and promoting the safe reuse of treated wastewater and fecal sludge. The project will thus contribute to reducing environmental risks, creating better living conditions and improving resilience of host communities in Jordan.

The UPM experts team tasks focus on the provision of recommendations and insight into potential project sites, as well as high-level input on stakeholders and existing technology solutions; input on technology selection and review on proposed treatment system; conceptual ideas for reuse of sludge/biosolids; and development of a co-financing sanitation strategy in the selected community.

In an area where every drop of water counts, new models of cooperation and trust building between governments entities, businesses, communities and civil society organisations allow to implement sustainable and viable solutions to tackle water scarcity. - Alex Miller, BORDA West & Central Asia Regional Director and co-lead of the project
We are very proud to have the opportunity to share UPM expertise and experience in sustainable and innovative decentralized sanitation and FSM solutions to this exciting project in Jordan.
